It’s been a while since we’ve last heard about Najib’s whereabouts. Last night, another raid took place at his house, and this time, it really happened! While we were all sleeping, the police were busy at work trying to find evidence. However, they took so long that even Najib fell asleep! Jib must’ve tired waiting for them to complete the raid!

Police officers from Bukit Aman’s federal commercial crimes department conducted a search at the former prime minister’s residence last night (May 16). They arrived at Najib’s bungalow at Taman Duta at about 10.15pm in more than a dozen cars, as well as a Black Maria truck, which is commonly used to transport detainees.

Najib had just returned to his Taman Duta home after going out briefly to the Masjid Kampung Baru to perform terawih prayers when the police team came.

At 3.50am, the Black Maria truck was reversed to the front gates of the bungalow, and officers loaded several boxes into the back of the vehicle, concluding the six-hour search. However, the police were still present at the scene at 8.15am. It is unclear as to why they had not left the house even after the search had been completed several hours ago, according to the Straits Times.

Since the search took up so much time, Najib was caught falling asleep!

A source close to Najib had criticised the marathon operation and shared a photograph with Malaysiakini showing the former premier asleep on a sofa as police officers rummaged the house.

“This is uncalled for. Why couldn’t they conduct the search earlier? He has to prepare for Sahur (pre-fasting meal) soon,” he added.

The source also criticised Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the operation, which came exactly a week after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election.

“Looks like Mahathir’s revenge has won. I hope he is happy wherever he is sleeping,” he added.

Another one of Najib’s residence at Pavilion Residence, KL, was also searched on the same night. Several boxes were taken from the condominium, while personal items including handbags and clothes were taken from the Taman Duta bungalow, but no documents were confiscated.

Najib’s lawyer, Harpal Singh Grewal who was present at the scene confirmed this.

“Just personal possessions, a couple of handbags and presents. It’s a big house so they had to search each room. That’s why it took so long,” he said.

He then added that Najib and his family offered their full cooperation during the whole six-hour search. However, he did not specify what the police investigation involved. He believes that it could be related to money laundering, reported Malaysia Kini.

“Datuk Seri Najib and his family cooperated with the police and they (police) acted professionally. We believe the investigation is under the Anti-Money Laundering Act,” he said.

Harpal also said the police did not inform as to when Najib might be called in for questioning.

“There is no arrest today. We can say that the police did not find any evidence,” he said, according to the New Straits Times.

Sentul district deputy police chief Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa was also spotted at the scene. As he was leaving the scene at around 11.40pm, the senior police officer told the media to “wait and see” when he was asked on the nature of the search.

News of the operation had spread as scores of journalists, photographers, and curious onlookers gathered outside the house. This led the police to create a barrier around the area with yellow tape.

I wonder what the police were looking for, and why was it so important that they took all night to find it? Poor Najib, he probably couldn’t get any sleep last night!
